Assault
Assault is the Wardogs progression track for frontline infantry. In Season 2 it starts with the AK74 and unlocks the T-21 at level 3, C4 at level 4, the Galil at 10, the Molotov at 13, the TCX-SPR at 20, the M4 at 28 and the FAL at 35, each for a one-time cash payment.
Assault is the Wardogs progression track for frontline infantry: you earn its XP by fighting with assault rifles and explosives, and each level opens new rifles, attachments and charges that you then buy once with cash to unlock. Wardogs has no fixed classes, so anyone can carry any item; the six tracks (Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Driver and Pilot) only decide what you have unlocked, as GameSpot and Eurogamer explain. Since Season 2 (update 0.2.0, Oct 15, 2026), Bulkhead calls Assault "the role for attacking enemy bases," and moved C4 and the new Molotov into it. Everything below is Season 2, read on Oct 26, 2026; each season has "a different XP curve with different item orders," so expect the table to change with Season 3.

How Assault earns XP
XP goes to the track that matches the item you use, so kills and assists with an assault rifle level Assault, Eurogamer explains. Season 2 sent more work this way: destroying an enemy buildable now gives Assault XP instead of Support, and IED and C4 kills count for Assault too, per Bulkhead's Season 2 notes. The same notes raised the cash bonus for a kill with an assault-archetype weapon from $1,500 to $2,000.
A combat role's first level needs 200 XP, per Dexerto, and Season 2's curve puts level 10 at 25,000 total XP, level 20 at 111,500, level 35 at 525,000 and level 50 at 1,150,000, per Bulkhead's Season 2 notes, which say level 20 "now takes less than half the playtime it did in Season 1." Every track's curve is on Progression and Unlocks.
Assault was the second most played track at launch: it took 20.54% of all XP earned on the launch weekend, just behind Support's 21.42%, Bulkhead and Team17 said.
Assault unlocks in Season 2
Reaching a level only makes an item available: you still pay its unlock cost once, then its vendor price every life you carry it (Economy and Cash). The AK74 and its 30 round magazine are free from the start since Season 2, and the STANAG 30 round magazine now comes with the T-21.

Dexerto's values match Season 2 wherever Bulkhead's notes give a figure. Dexerto counts 40 Assault unlocks through level 50; this table lists the ones with a published level.
Season 2 moved the M4 from level 20 to 28 and raised its unlock from $100,000 to $150,000, gave its old level 20 slot to the new TCX-SPR, and raised the FAL's unlock from $200,000 to $250,000, per Bulkhead's notes. Optics moved too: the Tricon 1.5x and Spitfire 3X left Assault for the Wardog career track (levels 26 and 31), and the 2.5x Combat Optic and 3x Tactical Prism Scope came the other way. The clip is Bulkhead's Oct 9 press conference introducing the TCX-SPR.
Assault weapons and gear
The track's rifles cost, per life, $800 for the AK74, $1,200 for the T-21, $2,000 for the Galil, $2,800 for the M4, $3,200 for the TCX-SPR and $6,000 for the FAL in Season 2 (the M4's price is Dexerto's). Bulkhead says the FAL "still has the highest damage-per-shot within the assault rifle category, but now sits closer to the TCX-SPR and M4" after Season 2 cut .308 Winchester base damage by 25% and 7.62x39mm by 19%. Each gun's full stats are on Assault Rifles and its attachments on Attachments.
The explosives are the base-breaking half of the role. A C4 Charge costs $250 and stacks to three, and needs a Remote Detonator, which Season 2 raised from $550 to $650. The Molotov, new in Season 2, costs $340, deals impact damage and then fire damage over time, burns destructible foliage and is weaker in rain. Rockets and mines sit on other tracks: the RPG-7 is a Support unlock and the Claymore a Recon one (Launchers and Explosives). In the clip Bulkhead's developers say the Molotov does little damage to vehicles and was meant for clearing buildings.
Assault loadouts and tips
Game Rant's Assault loadouts (Sep 17, 2026, written in Season 1) run in three steps: an AK74 with the CQB 74 Brake, RK6 Tactical Foregrip and 2.5x Combat Optic, plus binoculars, five bandages, two frag grenades and the free Emergency Resuscitator; then an M4 with the TopComp Brake, Rubberized Ergonomic Foregrip and CQ-2x; then a single-fire FAL with the Three Port Brake, TDG Vertical Foregrip and CQ-2x and a Ruck Backpack full of magazines. In Season 2 the AK74 costs nothing to unlock and the M4 comes later, at level 28. For a broke start, Game Rant built a $5,600 T-21 kit with two IEDs and two white smokes. More builds are on Best Loadouts.
Eurogamer's advice for Assault is to follow a squad rather than push alone. PC Gamer's tips are to leave spawn with at least two extra magazines, three to five bandages and a dot sight, and to hit the enemy's spawn APC with RPGs, IEDs or C4, which is "both strategically helpful and very profitable"; Dexerto lists a $4,000 base reward for destroying it. Fighting in the Hot Zone pays the most (Hot Zone and Towers), and everything you carry is lost if you die and are not revived (Healing and Revives).

Season 3Wardogs Season 3 is expected on Thursday, Nov 12, 2026, with a fresh economy reset, going by Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer's reply on Steam as PCGamesN and Shacknews reported it. As of Oct 26, 2026 no Bulkhead news post confirms the date, the start time or the patch notes.

Progression and UnlocksWardogs has seven progression tracks: the Wardog career track and six roles (Assault, Medic, Recon, Support, Driver, Pilot). Using a role's gear earns that role XP; reaching a level makes an item available, and you then pay a one-time cash unlock (the Havoc costs $650,000 at Pilot 35 in Season 2). Every track resets at a season wipe; Season 2 (Oct 15, 2026) made level 20 take less than half the Season 1 playtime.
-
Economy and CashEvery Wardogs player starts with $10,000, buys a whole loadout every life, loses it on death and earns cash back through teamplay (zone time, revives, transport, logistics, spotting, kills); the balance carries from match to match until a season ends. Since Season 2 (Oct 15, 2026) logistics pay lower base rates plus delivery streaks, spotting pays about 30% less, and vehicle and armor prices went up. -
Assault RiflesWardogs has nine assault rifles in Season 2: three free faction starter rifles, then the AK74 ($800, default), T-21 ($1,200), Galil ($2,000), M4 ($2,800, Assault 28), TCX-SPR ($3,200, Assault 20) and FAL ($6,000, Assault 35). Tier lists from September put the M4 and FAL on top, before Season 2 cut .308 damage by 25%.
-
AttachmentsWardogs guns take four kinds of attachment (optic, magazine, underbarrel and muzzle), each bought at the vendor every life once it is unlocked on a role track for a one-time cash cost. In Season 2 a red dot costs $340 to $840, a suppressor about $1,000 to $1,450, and the best sniper scope $1,800. -
Launchers and ExplosivesWardogs has four launchers on the Support track in Season 2, the RPG-7 (Support 6, $1,800), 9K333 Verba anti-air missile (Support 14, $800), MAAWS (Support 18, $2,400) and MGL-40 grenade launcher (Support 35, $7,500), plus the $200 M67 frag, Season 2's Molotov, C4 with a Remote Detonator (Assault 4), IEDs, Claymores, AT mines and smoke and signal grenades.
