Support

Support is the Wardogs progression track for building, heavy weapons and logistics. In Season 2 it unlocks the Light Drill at level 1, the Medium Hammer at 3, the RPG-7 at 6, the Large Hammer (needed for the mortar) at 8, the PKM at 15, the M249 at 20, the Evo-3 Ultra at 30 and the MGL-40 at 35.

Support is the Wardogs progression track for builders and heavy gunners: you earn its XP by building fortifications with hammers and by fighting with machine guns and launchers, and its levels open bigger hammers, rocket and missile launchers, light machine guns and mines, each unlocked once with cash. It was the most played track at launch, with 21.42% of all XP earned on the launch weekend, Bulkhead and Team17 said. Its key unlock is the Large Hammer at level 8, which builds everything, the L81 Mortar included. Everything below is Season 2 (update 0.2.0, Oct 15, 2026), read on Oct 26, 2026.

How Support earns XP and cash

XP goes to the track that matches the item in your hands, so a hammer or an LMG levels Support, Eurogamer explains. Building pays as you go: in the beta each productive hammer swing paid $15 and finishing a build $1,200 to $1,500, PC Gamer reported, and hitting the yellow crosses on a structure builds much faster. Eurogamer found you can "comfortably make double" a match's win bonus by building at the back.

Season 2 took three jobs away from Support, per Bulkhead's notes: destroying enemy buildables and IED and C4 kills now give Assault XP, repairing a vehicle gives Driver or Pilot XP depending on the vehicle, and "artillery" gives Driver XP (the notes do not say whether that includes the L81 Mortar). Dexerto's Season 1 guide to leveling Support (use the FOB kit and supplies, build, drop pallets and repair vehicles) predates that change. Season 2's curve puts level 10 at 25,000 total XP, level 20 at 111,500 and level 35 at 525,000 (Progression and Unlocks).

Support unlocks in Season 2

Reaching a level makes an item available; you pay its unlock cost once, then its vendor price each life (Economy and Cash). The Small Hammer and the FOB kit need no unlock.

Dexerto's values match Season 2 wherever Bulkhead's notes give a figure.

Season 2 swapped the two machine guns: the PKM moved from level 30 down to 15 and from $150,000 to $100,000, and the M249 from 15 up to 20 and from $100,000 to $150,000, per Bulkhead's notes. It added the Evo-3 Ultra at level 30, raised the MGL-40's unlock from $200,000 to $250,000, moved the MAAWS from 20 to 18 and the Verba from 16 to 14, and moved C4 from Support level 2 to the Assault track. The Medium and Large Hammer unlocks were raised for launch, to $25,000 and $75,000, in the Sep 9 changelog.

Hammers and building

The hammer decides what you can build. The Small Hammer ($100) builds small pieces such as sandbag walls, hedgehogs and barbed wire, slowly; the Medium Hammer ($800) builds large and basic structures; the Large Hammer ($2,400) builds everything, fastest. In Season 2 the Wooden Step needs a Small Hammer or better, the Large Shelter a Medium Hammer or better, and the MG Nest the Large Hammer, the Medium Hammer adds less per swing, and hammers can no longer breach doors and gates (the Halligan Bar does), per Bulkhead's notes. Building needs Build Supplies, $10 a unit in stacks of 50, and Season 2 raised many costs so structures become "a considered investment rather than something you spam". Every buildable is on Building and Fortifications.

FOBs

A Forward Operating Base kit costs $7,500 a life (the Sep 9 changelog raised it from $2,500 for launch) and takes a 2x3 space, so it does not fit the free backpack. GameSpot's FOB guide explains that you can place it anywhere except your spawn and not near an enemy FOB, that only your team can build inside its radius, that each new FOB comes with a free small and medium hammer and some bandages, and that there is no limit on how many a team builds. Game Rant counted 1,250 build supplies and 100 ammo supplies in a fresh FOB in Season 1.

GameSpot's build order is perimeter first (high walls with barbed wire, few doors, one main gate), then offense (SAMs, mortars, sniper towers), then the drill, then refuel stations, and never on a roof, where one mortar can destroy it. Enemies can hack a FOB: in Season 2 the hacker gets $2,500 and 250 XP, and destroying one pays up to $7,500 depending on the supplies inside, per Bulkhead's notes. Keep the doors shut: players complain that open FOB doors let enemies in, GameSpot reports.

Mortars and ammo

The L81 Mortar is a buildable, not a weapon you carry: you need the Large Hammer from Support level 8 to build it, PCGamesN explains, and supplies and mortar ammunition are bought at the spawn base. You set a heading and range with no map overlay, the camera follows the shell, WASD adjusts and the mouse fine-tunes. Dexerto lists it at 3,000 health, turning a FOB's ammo supplies into 81mm shells.

Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer said in September there was "a bit of a mortar spam meta" with ammo too cheap, and Season 2 answered it: the mortar's build cost rose from 150 to 600 supplies, its restock from 75 to 150, and a new drop-in firing animation slows its rate of fire, per Bulkhead's notes. Ammo Supplies ($10 a unit) reload buildable weapons inside a FOB radius, and the Ammo Supply Pallet became a Wardog level 9 unlock for $25,000 in Season 2. A supply pallet delivered to a FOB pays $1,250 in Season 2 (it was $2,500). More on the mortar and the SPH-2 is on Tanks and Artillery.

Support loadouts and tips

Game Rant's Support loadouts (Sep 30, 2026, Season 1) start with an AK74 and a Small or Medium Hammer plus supply-request smoke, then move to an M249 or PKM with the Orpheus Max Brake and a bipod, a Large Hammer or 9K333 Verba, a FOB and AT mines, assuming at least $30,000 in the bank. Season 2 made LMG body damage match assault rifles, so LMGs "win fights through sustained fire and magazine size". PCGamesN's advice for anyone not ready to fight is to build a base, but Eurogamer warns of teams cramming FOBs while "the Hot Zone wanders around almost completely uncontested" (Hot Zone and Towers). Weapon stats are on Light Machine Guns and Pistols and Launchers and Explosives.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Support track unlock in Wardogs? In Season 2 the Wardogs Support track unlocks the Light Drill (level 1), Medium Hammer (3), RPG-7 (6), Large Hammer (8), M500 (10), 9K333 Verba (14), PKM (15), MAAWS (18), M249 SAW (20), AT Mine (25), Heavy Drill (28), Evo-3 Ultra (30) and MGL-40 (35).

How do you build a mortar in Wardogs? Unlock the Large Hammer at Wardogs Support level 8, place a FOB, then build the L81 Mortar inside its radius; in Season 2 it costs 600 build supplies and fires shells made from the FOB's ammo supplies.

What level is the Large Hammer in Wardogs? The Wardogs Large Hammer unlocks at Support level 8 for $75,000 and then costs $2,400 each life; it is the only hammer that builds everything.

How much is a FOB in Wardogs? A Forward Operating Base kit costs $7,500 each life in Wardogs and needs no unlock; it takes a 2x3 space, so it needs a bigger backpack than the free Pouch.

How do you level Support fast in Wardogs? Build with a hammer, hitting the yellow crosses to build faster, and fight with LMGs and launchers. Since Season 2, Wardogs gives repair XP to the Driver or Pilot track and buildable kills to Assault, so they no longer level Support.

What is the best Support weapon in Wardogs? Dexerto's Wardogs tier list put the PKM in S tier and the M249 SAW in A before Season 2; Season 2 moved the PKM earlier, to level 15, and added the Evo-3 Ultra at level 30.
