Maps
Wardogs launched in Early Access with three maps, each with three variations, and every map is 256 km² with a randomized 2x2 km Control Zone. Bulkhead names only Bakurani; Game Rant names Zestafona; no new map has been added as of Oct 26, 2026.
Wardogs has three maps in Early Access, "each with three variations," per Team17's launch announcement, and each map is 256 km² with a randomized 2x2 km Control Zone inside it, per Bulkhead's FAQ. Bulkhead names only one of them in its posts, Bakurani; Game Rant names a second, Zestafona; no official post or reputable outlet has named the third as of Oct 26, 2026. Season 2 (Oct 15, 2026) added rain but no new map. Because the Control Zone moves from match to match, the map matters less than where the zone lands: see Control Zone and Scoring and Hot Zone and Towers.

Map size and the Control Zone
Every Wardogs map is 256 km², and the fight happens in a much smaller 2x2 km Control Zone placed at random inside it, as Bulkhead's FAQ and the official site both say. The Steam store page describes "randomized 2x2km 'Control Zones' within larger maps" and says the zone's location and players' tactics mean "no match ever plays out the same." The team with the most players in the zone scores, and the first to 100 points wins. Most of the map is crossed rather than fought over: Eurogamer notes that the action stays in the Control Zone and the rest of the map is used mainly by transport, and that the zone tends to sit on urban areas, so many fights are close quarters.
The three maps
Bakurani is the only map Bulkhead names. Its Season 2 notes moved all three team spawns on Bakurani and rebuilt each with "purpose-built routes to the zone," part of the work on the blue team's lower win rate (Factions). Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer later said the Bakurani spawn changes had evened things out in testing and that Bulkhead should have relied on them rather than the Lonestar bonus it removed after a day, as PCGamesN reported on Oct 16, 2026. Before that change, Game Rant (Sep 18, 2026) found that Lonestar could open on Bakurani with more progress toward towers 1 and 5, two towers close together, than either other team, and PCGamesN wrote that green's two-tower defense often won there in Season 1. Bakurani also has a church on a hilltop whose side doors give good views; Game Rant calls it a good sniping spot (Sniper Guide).
Zestafona is named by Game Rant, which saw "a noticeable Manticore advantage" in its layout but an even split between red and blue in practice. Bulkhead's own posts do not name it.
The third map has no name in any official post or reputable press article found as of Oct 26, 2026. Names and descriptions on fan map sites are not confirmed, so Vi.ki does not repeat them.
What the "three variations" of each map are (different zone positions, times of day or weather) is not explained in any official source found. The only weather Bulkhead has announced is Season 2's rain.
Spawns and distances
Each team has a headquarters with vendors where its players spawn, and the main base sits about 3 km from the zone, as PCGamesN measured in the closed test. PC Gamer puts the drive at 4 to 5 minutes depending on the vehicle, and Kotaku estimated five to six minutes on foot. In Season 1, PC Gamer found that Lonestar usually started in the southernmost corner with Manticore and Valkyra in the west and east, and that the headquarters were not spaced evenly around the zone; Game Rant likewise says factions usually enter the zone from the west, south and east. Since Season 2 each spawn also has guns with targets, a football and a hidden radio to pass the time before a match. Getting from spawn to the fight is covered on Spawning and Redeploying. In the clip Bulkhead describes Bakurani's first layout as a T-shape that left blue at the bottom.
Landmarks
The maps hold towns and apartment blocks that, per the Steam store, you can destroy with rocket launchers or drive tanks through (Destruction). Inside each zone are several capturable towers, which PCGamesN describes as focal points for FOBs and sniper vantage points, marked on the map with a square icon that turns a team's color once captured, per GameSpot. GameSpot also notes that towers and churches are among the few structures that cannot be destroyed, and that churches often stand on high ground. How towers are captured is on Hot Zone and Towers.
Rain
Season 2 added a rain weather preset: surfaces, vehicles and soldiers get wet, rain sounds change under cover, and rain falls through destroyed roofs. In heavy rain, thunder is synchronized so every player hears the same strike from the same direction, loud enough to mask footsteps. Rain also shortens spotting range and weakens Molotov fire, per the same notes. Team17 called it heavy rain and thunderstorms "for the first time". See Season 2.
The weather does not change during a match. Asked in Bulkhead's Oct 9, 2026 press conference whether it is set at the start or can change, the team said there is one weather system, kept that way for performance, and that nobody is working on dynamic weather for now.
Map rotation and choosing a map
Bulkhead has not published a map rotation order or rotation rules as of Oct 26, 2026, and Insider Gaming's patch history through Season 2 lists none. Servers do change map between matches: Patch 0.11 mentions community server IDs that used to be "wiped on map change," and since Season 2 a player kicked for high ping cannot rejoin that server "until the next map transition," per the Season 2 notes. To pick a map, use the server browser, which PC Gamer says sorts official servers by players, ping, rulesets and maps (Servers and Matchmaking).
The setting and its Georgian references
Wardogs is set in war-torn Kolchia, in a fight over PV-1, "a rare resource fuelling decades of Eurasian conflict," in Bulkhead's words. The Steam store calls it "the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe," and Bulkhead's level designers gathered references "firsthand in Georgia", per its Jul 16, 2026 devlog. Bulkhead has not said which real places, if any, a given map is modeled on. More on the factions fighting there is on Factions.
More maps are planned
New maps are planned but have no date. The Steam store's Early Access section lists "more maps" among what the full version adds, and Bulkhead told Insider Gaming (Aug 28, 2026) that new maps are part of its 1.0 plans. Before launch, PCGamesN reported three maps at launch "with one more to come," and Bulkhead's own "10 reasons not to buy" video said that after launch it would focus on bug fixes, feedback "and a new map," as PC Gamer quoted it. Neither Season 2 nor any patch through Oct 26, 2026 added one, and the Season 3 plans reported so far do not name a map. See Early Access and Roadmap. In the clip, from Bulkhead's Oct 24, 2026 podcast, the team describes an unnamed new map it has played, half bowl and half flat, with a hospital.

Control Zone and ScoringWardogs has one mode, Control Zone: three teams fight over a randomized 2x2 km zone, the team with the most players inside it scores a point about every 30 seconds, and the first team to 100 points wins. Players in the smaller Hot Zone count double. -
Hot Zone and TowersThe Hot Zone is a smaller, moving circle inside Wardogs' Control Zone where each player counts double toward the score and earns double cash. Teams pull it to themselves by capturing towers and entering a four-digit code, or with a fueled Drill Rig at a FOB. -
FactionsWardogs has three factions: Lonestar (blue), a Western paramilitary company; Valkyra (red), out to restore the Soviet People's Republic; and Manticore (green), Persia's shadow army. They play the same, but blue has lost more often since the betas, and Season 2's one-day Lonestar bonus did not fix it.

Sniper GuideSniping in Wardogs is the Recon track: start with the SKS at Recon 5, move to the SV98 at Recon 18 and the AMR 50 at Recon 35, add the ghillie suit at Recon 26, and shoot from high ground such as Bakurani's hilltop church. Season 2 cut big-caliber damage but raised sniper hit-location damage. -
Spawning and RedeployingIn Wardogs you respawn at your team's HQ, about 3 km from the Control Zone, with nothing but what you buy again. The only other spawn point is your team's single APC; FOBs and tents are not spawns, so most players ride a helicopter or truck back and often parachute in. -
DestructionWardogs lets you blow open apartment blocks with rocket launchers, drive tanks through towns and destroy every player-built structure, though buildings are not flattened entirely and towers and churches cannot be destroyed. Since Season 2 destroying an enemy vehicle pays $100 (Bobcat) to $14,000 (Havoc), and a buildable pays its build cost in cash.
