Wardogs 1.0 and console release: Dec 2028Not announced: our best guess from Bulkhead's plan to bring Wardogs to PlayStation 5 and Xbox, with 1.0, in 2028.
Best guessBulkhead's launch trailer says Wardogs is "COMING TO CONSOLES IN 2028", and CEO Joe Brammer calls the goal "the 1.0 launch on console", but no date is announced, so we count to the end of 2028, the last day the announced year allows. Bulkhead on Steam

Consoles and Crossplay

Wardogs is on Windows PC through Steam only; PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions are planned for 2028 with the 1.0 release, and both can be wishlisted. There is no crossplay because there is only one platform, and Bulkhead has not said whether PC and consoles will play together; Steam Deck, Linux and Mac are not supported.

Wardogs is not on PS5 or Xbox yet: it is a Windows PC game sold only on Steam, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions are planned for 2028, the year the launch trailer gave in the words "COMING TO CONSOLES IN 2028" (Bulkhead, Sep 10, 2026). Both console versions could be wishlisted from launch day (Team17, Sep 10, 2026). Until then there is no crossplay to speak of, since everyone plays on the same PC version, and neither Bulkhead nor Team17 has said whether PC and console players will meet in 2028. Steam Deck and Linux are unsupported because of the game's anti-cheat. The clip is the end of the launch trailer, down to its console card and "Available now via Steam Early Access".

PS5 and Xbox in 2028

Team17 announced the console versions in its launch release, titled "WARDOGS launches today on Steam Early Access, officially expanding to console in 2028", and opened wishlists on PlayStation 5 and Xbox at 11 am BST on Sep 10, 2026. The release links a PlayStation Store concept page and an Xbox store page, and Bulkhead's later sales release repeats that wishlists are open on both (Bulkhead and Team17, Sep 16, 2026). Insider Gaming reported the same 2028 plan (Insider Gaming, Sep 10, 2026), and Metacritic already lists the game for PC and Xbox Series X (Metacritic, read Oct 26, 2026).

The consoles are tied to 1.0. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer describes the goal as "growing the game for the 1.0 launch on console" (GamesRadar+, Sep 21, 2026), and the store expects Early Access to last "around 1 to 2 years" from Sep 10, 2026 (Steam). Neither Bulkhead nor Team17 has given a month or a day for either console version as of Oct 26, 2026. What is planned before then is on Early Access and Roadmap. The clip is Bulkhead's August video, which puts full release about 24 months after the Early Access launch, on multiple platforms.

GamesRadar+ expects the console versions to cost more than the $39.99 PC price, since the full game is meant to be pricier (GamesRadar+, Sep 11, 2026); the planned PC price steps are on Price and Supporter Edition.

The older 2027 plan

Before launch the console year was different. When everplay group, Team17's parent, announced its stake in Bulkhead's owner Super Media Group, it described a "full multi-platform release in 2027" (everplay, read Oct 26, 2026). Since the Early Access launch, Bulkhead and Team17 have said 2028, so 2027 is the older plan, not the current one.

Brammer will not rush consoles

Brammer says he is under pressure to bring the console versions forward and has refused: "Everyone's pushing us to get [the console version] out earlier, and we've said, 'No, that's not how it's going to work. We can't push them more.'" (PC Gamer, Sep 15, 2026). In an IGN interview that PlayGround.ru reported, Bulkhead co-founder Howard Philpott said versions for the next generation of consoles would be close to an ordinary port, and senior producer Kane Allard said talks with platform holders are underway (PlayGround.ru on Steam, Oct 9, 2026). Which console generations the 2028 release covers beyond PS5 and Xbox has not been announced.

Crossplay

Wardogs has no crossplay today because it exists on one platform: every player is on the Windows version on Steam (TheGamer, Sep 10, 2026). Crossplay between PC and the 2028 console versions has not been announced by Bulkhead or Team17 as of Oct 26, 2026, and Insider Gaming's report on the console plan does not mention it (Insider Gaming, Sep 10, 2026). Any claim that it is confirmed, either way, goes beyond what the studio has said.

What does cross today is regions. Community server admins set their own ping limits, so players from different regions can share a server, while official servers have capped ping at 175 since Oct 21, 2026 (GameWatcher, Oct 22, 2026). Playing with friends abroad is covered on Servers and Matchmaking.

Controller support

The two official sources disagree, so both are stated here. Steam's store data lists no controller support for Wardogs, and the base package carries full_gamepad: false (Steam, read Oct 26, 2026). Bulkhead's own patch notes, though, keep adding gamepad features: update 0.1.2 made the Deploy screen work with a gamepad (Bulkhead, Sep 30, 2026), and Season 2 added an Aim Assist strength slider under Settings, Controller, Advanced (default 1, 0 turns it off), faster aim acceleration and many new controller binds (Bulkhead, Oct 14, 2026). Controller support was one of the points in Bulkhead's "10 reasons not to buy" video (GameSpot, Aug 13, 2026).

In practice a controller works, with gaps no official statement has filled. GamesRadar+ finds helicopters easier to fly with a controller than with mouse and keyboard and lists the default controller flight binds (GamesRadar+, Sep 16, 2026). The binds are on Controls and Keybinds and flying on Helicopter Flying Guide.

Steam Deck, Linux and Mac

Steam's compatibility report rates Wardogs Unsupported on Steam Deck and SteamOS (Steam, read Oct 26, 2026), and the store lists Windows only, with no Mac or Linux version (Steam). The reason is anti-cheat. The betas used Easy Anti-Cheat and ran under Proton, but the game launched with the kernel-level anti-cheat Elytra, which left Steam Deck and Linux players who had played the beta unable to play (TheGamer, Sep 10, 2026). In August Bulkhead had said it was working on Proton support (GamingOnLinux on Steam, Aug 13, 2026).

On Sep 5 the developers wrote: "We do not officially support Linux and we cannot commit to having support for launch", and asked anyone who bought it for Proton to refund (GamingOnLinux, Sep 5, 2026). Brammer called Linux a priority "in part for Steam Deck. But not at the expense of security" (Game Rant, Sep 8, 2026), and a Sep 25 developer update gave no new timeline, as GamingOnLinux reported. As of Sep 28 the game could not be played on SteamOS or other Linux distributions (PCGamesN, Sep 28, 2026). More is on Anti-Cheat and Bans and PC Requirements and Performance.

For players without a Windows PC, Team17's game page says Wardogs is "Available on GeForce NOW" (Team17, read Oct 26, 2026).
